Ayr United 3 v 1 Stirling Albion (88 images)
With just six games remaining the Beanos took on the toughest of them this afternoon as they visited league leaders Ayr United. The Somerset Park side have been in great form over the last few months and having overtaken Raith at the top of the table they are now favourites to be popping champagne corks come May. A tall order then for Allan Moore's side but Stirling have done well against the top six sides this season with Brechin the only one to defeat them to date. A point would probably be seen as a good result for the Beanos but with the play-off race getting tight all three could prove a fantastic bonus.
On a windy and rainy day on the Ayrshire coast the visitors bossed the match in the opening 25 minutes and took a deserved lead thanks to a cracker from Martin Grehan. Ayr were beginning to get frustrated when a 20 yard trundler was allowed to sneak in by the recalled Myles Hogarth and it was game on. A second on the whistle seemed to knock the stuffing out of Stirling and worse was to follow when Martin Grehan didn't reappear after the lemons. In truth a fairly woeful second half ensued and Allan Moore can have no complaints about the final winning margin.
