Brechin City 2 v Stirling Albion 1 (70 images)
The 2008/09 league season kicked off this afternoon as Allan Moore's Stirling Albion side travelled North to take on Brechin City at Glebe Park. Stirling have enjoyed success on recent early season trips to the Glebe and the Albion manager would have been hoping for another positive result this time around. However, with a less than spectacular pre-season behind them and the squad still short of players it looked set to be a testing afternoon for the Beanos. The home side were first to draw blood after new signing Gary Twigg bundled home from close range. Stirling though came to life in the closing minutes of the first half and were unlucky not to go in at the break level. However, it was soon all square after the break as a linesman's flag controversially saw David White credited with an own goal. Brechin were now on the ropes but a string of missed chances saw the home side somehow cling on. Late in the match the Albion appeared to run short of ideas and were made to pay for their missed opportunities when Darren Smith curled home a beauty to seal the points.
